SINGAPORE: In the annual reshuffle of school leadership, 52 Singapore schools will see new principals take charge in 2024. This change includes new leadership appointments in five junior colleges, 21 secondary schools, and 26 primary schools, as announced by the Ministry of Education (MOE).

According to the MOE, rotating principals across schools brings fresh perspectives and allows experienced leaders to share best practices within the educational system. Of the new principal appointees, 15 are first-time principals, while 37 will be transferring to new schools. “For the newly appointed principals, this marks a significant career milestone, with an increased leadership role in education,” said MOE. For the remaining educators, the rotation underscores the ministry’s confidence in their abilities to guide teachers, staff, and students effectively in their new roles.

Among the new appointees is Aaron Loh, 48, who will lead Raffles Institution. An alumnus of Raffles Junior College, Loh previously taught literature and general paper there. At Ngee Ann Secondary School, 38-year-old Poh Shi Hui steps into her first principal role, prioritizing an understanding of her staff and students’ unique strengths and needs.

The Appointment and Appreciation Ceremony for Principals will take place on December 28, 2023, marking the formal start of the new appointments. The MOE will also recognize the contributions of outgoing principals, including 10 who will retire or complete their re-employment contracts by the end of 2023.
