A touching story of community support has unfolded in Singapore, where compassionate citizens have united to aid 93-year-old Mr. Ah Boon, an ice cream seller abandoned by his five children. The story, shared by Robert Chua, founder of Joy Luck Teahouse, on social media, has inspired a wave of kindness across the city.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Mr. Chua described how Ah Boon, despite his age, spends long hours in the sun, working from 8 a.m. to mid-afternoon selling ice cream. “Imagine being abandoned by your children and forced to work daily like Ah Boon under the scorching sun,” he wrote, noting the elderly man’s struggles, including the cost of dry ice, which eats into his earnings daily. Mr. Chua shared that Ah Boon often sits looking lost and without purpose, with his pack of cigarettes as his sole comfort.

Chua encouraged Singaporeans to buy ice cream from Ah Boon at Sim Lim Tower on Jalan Besar, urging patrons to be generous, pay with larger bills, and let him keep the change. In addition to his post, Chua has joined with volunteers already assisting the elderly poor to find Ah Boon a more suitable location and recruit more helpers to support him in the long term.

The story has ignited community spirit, reminding Singaporeans of the power of small acts of kindness.
