We’ve all probably experienced accidentally missing a bus stop, which as an adult is easily resolved with Google Maps. But for an 8-year-old, things can quickly become overwhelming. One Mothership reader, Grace, shared a heartwarming story about how a kind stranger in Singapore helped reunite her with her daughter, who had fallen asleep on the bus and found herself at an unfamiliar location.

Grace explained that her daughter, who normally takes the bus home from school on her own, missed her stop after dozing off during the journey from Tampines to Bedok. The family had only recently moved to Singapore from the Philippines, and while they live in Bedok, they were unable to enroll their daughter in a nearby school, so she commutes daily to Tampines.

On that day, the little girl woke up disoriented in Paya Lebar, feeling anxious and lost. Fortunately, a kind woman seated next to her noticed her distress and stepped in to help. The stranger asked for her parents’ contact details and reached out to Grace and her husband. She even stayed with the girl, keeping her company for over an hour until the parents arrived.

The thoughtful stranger bought the girl a cake and snacks to calm her down and explained that, as a mother herself, she understood how worried Grace must have been. Grace expressed immense gratitude for the stranger’s kindness, noting, “She saved my daughter from being lost. I can’t thank her enough.”

The family was finally reunited, and Grace was touched by the stranger’s selflessness, especially during the busy rush hour. “I would definitely say Singapore is very safe, and people are very helpful,” Grace said, grateful for the kindness her daughter received.
