SINGAPORE: Heavy traffic at the Singapore-Malaysia land border caused a massive three-and-a-half-hour jam on the eve of Good Friday (Apr 6), as many Singaporeans headed to Malaysia to enjoy the long weekend.

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) announced that both the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints were experiencing heavy traffic and urged motorists to plan for longer travel times.

Pedestrians crossing the checkpoints also faced long queues, with thousands crowding customs hallways to enter Malaysia. The Checkpoint.sg app, which tracks traffic conditions at border crossings, showed that traffic began to build up around 7 pm, just as the workday ended.

At Woodlands Checkpoint, waiting times to enter Malaysia were between 150 and 220 minutes, while at Tuas Checkpoint, the wait ranged from 135 to 200 minutes.

At 8:20 pm, the ICA provided an update, warning of continued delays and advising travellers to check traffic conditions before starting their journey, while also reminding motorists to cooperate with officers and maintain lane discipline.
