SINGAPORE – Singaporeans should brace for the continuation of April’s warm and humid weather, which is set to extend into the next two weeks. Daily temperatures are anticipated to reach as high as 34°C on most afternoons during the first half of May, typically the warmest month of the year.
The Meteorological Service Singapore reported that on days with less cloud cover, temperatures could even climb to 35°C.
Additionally, short thundery showers are expected in various parts of the island during most afternoons, with some rainfall possibly extending into the evening on select days. This week may also bring a few pre-dawn and morning thundery showers accompanied by gusty winds.
April has generally been warm, characterized by light winds. The daily maximum temperature surpassed 34°C on most days, with Woodlands recording a peak of 36.1°C on April 14.
Thundery showers were common in the afternoons, particularly in certain areas, and these occasionally persisted into the evenings. On April 20, heavy thundery showers and gusty winds resulted in significant rainfall, especially in the western and southern regions of Singapore, with Jurong West registering 112.1mm of rain on that day—the highest for the month.
These storms were linked to a Sumatra squall, a line of thunderstorms that forms over the Strait of Malacca and moves eastward toward Singapore.
