“My Gamer Life” is an AsiaOne original series that features gaming professionals and aspirants in Singapore as they share their personal stories about the highs, lows, successes, and failures that have shaped their lives in gaming.

In the inaugural episode, esports commentator Eugene Eu, also known as “Abstract,” opens up about the challenges he has faced while building his career in Singapore’s esports scene and nurturing emerging talents. His role, known as shoutcasting, involves narrating the storylines within games while keeping the audience entertained.

The 27-year-old shared with AsiaOne, “Your personality is one of the most important things, as it sets you apart from others.” With 11 years of experience as a commentator across various game titles and events, including the Free Fire World Series 2022 and the Mobile Legends Professional League 2023, Eugene has spent significant time defining his self-worth in the industry.

He remarked, “At my current stage, I’m grappling with the challenge of identifying myself and demonstrating my value in both the regional and international scenes.” He expressed concerns over the competitive landscape and the distinctions between him and other skilled shoutcasters. “Am I overpricing myself? Or is it because of the different cost of living?” he questioned.
