In a startling revelation, a man named Oon Zeng Kai has uncovered a hidden nightmare beneath the balcony of a HDB unit in Tampines. Sharing his experience on TikTok last Saturday (May 20), the renovation business owner detailed the alarming discovery made during a recent project.
The 1,604 sq ft executive apartment, which Oon had worked on in February, had wooden flooring that concealed a thriving colony of hundreds of termites. The flooring was raised, suggesting that the homeowner may have installed tiles on top of the wooden surface.
Speaking to AsiaOne on Monday (May 22), Oon explained that he stumbled upon the infestation after the homeowner reported seeing “creepy crawlies” around the balcony area. “We sort of expected them, but we weren’t sure how many were there,” he remarked.
The 40-second TikTok clip showcased the process of installing new flooring for the balcony after exterminating the pests with insecticide. Oon advised viewers, “Avoid parquet at balcony area,” highlighting how wooden flooring is particularly susceptible to termite damage.
Despite his recommendation to engage a pest control company, the homeowner declined, leading Oon to dispose of all timber fittings in the affected area. The TikTok video quickly gained traction, amassing over 900 likes and 65,000 views, with many netizens expressing shock at the volume of termites hidden within the home.
In the comments section, viewers shared their own experiences and offered tips to prevent termite infestations.

Fix Leaks: Repair leaking pipes and taps to keep structures dry.
Seal Cracks: Ensure all cracks around utility and water pipes are sealed.
