SINGAPORE: A frustrated employer took to social media to share his discontent with his maid’s behavior after she went out on a weekday without permission. In an anonymous post to a Facebook support group for domestic helpers and employers, he expressed his feelings of unease regarding the situation.

The employer explained that he typically allows his maid to go out on weekdays after work, provided she seeks permission and returns at a reasonable hour. He mentioned that during Hari Raya, in addition to her regular Sunday off, she was permitted to stay out overnight. The maid is paid a monthly salary of $900.

“However, on several occasions, she has left the house without permission or without waiting for my approval,” he wrote. “Tonight, I’m sitting in my living room at 12:45 AM, feeling very upset because she left the house around 9 PM without informing us and left my gate unlocked. As of now, she still hasn’t returned!”

The employer expressed concern that the maid would likely come back at daybreak, fatigued and unprepared to fulfill her cooking duties for the family.

Netizens who commented on the post shared their thoughts and experiences regarding similar situations, highlighting the importance of clear communication and mutual respect in employer-helper relationships.
