SINGAPORE – Starting July 1, Singapore Airlines (SIA) will provide free unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi to KrisFlyer member passengers traveling in economy and premium economy classes. This initiative is part of SIA’s commitment to enhancing the flight experience for its passengers, as announced by CEO Goh Choon Phong during a media roundtable on May 30.

This announcement follows a recent decision to improve meal offerings, including the reintroduction of appetizers to economy class meals beginning June 1. The roll-out of free Wi-Fi builds on SIA’s earlier enhancements, which granted complimentary unlimited Wi-Fi to passengers in suites and first/business classes, as well as Priority Passenger Service (PPS) Club members, starting in January.

Currently, KrisFlyer members in economy class receive two hours of free Wi-Fi, while premium economy passengers receive three hours. Signing up for KrisFlyer membership is free, making the service accessible to more travelers.

In addition to the Wi-Fi upgrade, SIA plans to enhance meal service in economy class. Passengers on flights longer than 3½ hours will receive an appetizer, a bread roll, a main course, cheese and crackers, and dessert. For short-haul flights between 1½ and 3½ hours, meals will also include bread rolls, along with the main course and dessert.

These changes come after feedback regarding the quality of economy class meals, particularly during a trial where meals were served in paper containers. Some passengers perceived this shift as a cost-cutting measure, prompting SIA to clarify its intentions. Goh acknowledged that while data indicated many passengers did not consume appetizers, customer perceptions are equally important.

He emphasized that SIA strives to enhance customer experience without compromising on quality, stating that ticket prices are influenced by demand and supply rather than SIA’s operational costs.
