SINGAPORE: Just as South Korea boasts the renowned Song Hye Kyo, Singapore has its own talented and introverted star—Cheryl Chou. Crowned Miss Universe Singapore in 2016, Cheryl has made her mark in the entertainment industry with appearances in local dramas such as Bridge Across the River, Golden Tower, Secret House, Reunion, and The Cutting Edge.

At just 27 years old, Cheryl’s journey began after spending a decade in an international school before pursuing her studies in fashion communication in the United States. A true multilingual talent, she speaks Chinese, English, Cantonese, and has a smattering of Shanghainese. Currently, she is learning Hokkien to expand her linguistic repertoire.

Despite her quiet nature, Cheryl revealed that her introverted personality has shaped her love for solitude, often finding joy in reading at the library. Local media have affectionately dubbed her the “Song Hye Kyo of Singapore,” noting that, like the famous actress, she exudes a fierce exterior while possessing a kind and beautiful spirit. Cheryl is known for her lively personality and unconventional sense of humor, endearing her to fans.

On social media, particularly TikTok, Cheryl captivates followers with her sweet, dreamy voice, sharing song covers while playing various instruments, earning comparisons to a Disney Princess.

Currently, Cheryl stars in Mediacorp’s new drama series, Shero, where she portrays a female bodyguard to a princess. Her character is not only tough but also carries a playful personality, adding depth to her role. The series follows a young woman who joins her missing sister’s bodyguard company to uphold her legacy, discovering along the way the challenges her sister faced to protect their loved ones and the company.

Catch Shero on weekdays at 9 PM on Channel 8 and streaming on meWATCH.
