JOHOR, MALAYSIA — A tragic accident claimed the lives of three women — two Singaporean citizens and one Singapore permanent resident — when the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) they were traveling in collided with a lorry on Monday, August 28, just before 2 p.m. The accident occurred near Ladang Cenas, Bandar Tenggara, about an hour from Singapore.
According to reports from Malay Mail, the passengers, identified as Toh Poh Kian, 56, and Soon Moh Tan and Wong Lan Yew, both 61, were pronounced dead at the scene. One of the deceased, Wong Lan Yew, was a Malaysian holding Singapore PR status.
The vehicle’s driver, Ong Cheow Lam, a 59-year-old Singaporean, survived the accident without injuries, as did the 49-year-old driver of the lorry. Kota Tinggi police officer Hussin Zamora shared that the accident occurred while the MPV was attempting to overtake another vehicle but collided head-on with an oncoming lorry.
Images from the scene depicted the MPV, a Honda Freed, severely damaged and the lorry tipped on its side. Bandar Tenggara Fire Station’s Senior Fire Officer II, Mohd Norul Fazudin Shafie, confirmed that firemen were dispatched immediately upon receiving the report, and the deceased were found within the vehicle.
