The Float @ Marina Bay is set to undergo a major transformation as it is redeveloped into NS Square, with construction beginning in the third quarter of 2023 and expected to finish by 2027. Originally slated for late 2026, the project was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a joint statement from the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) and the Ministry of National Development (MND) on Sept. 6.

The new NS Square will include an upgraded stage deck and grandstand with a seating capacity for about 30,000 attendees. This enhanced space will serve as a permanent venue for future National Day Parades and the annual Marina Bay Singapore Countdown celebrations.

During construction, the Marina Promenade in front of the current floating platform will be closed to pedestrians starting Sept. 6, with an alternative walkway available along Raffles Avenue.

Beyond the main event space, NS Square will feature a national service-themed gallery, community sports facilities, and a new public waterfront promenade for visitors to enjoy. Expand Construction, the firm awarded the project, was chosen from 13 proposals submitted by six companies. With a track record that includes the Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade and Esplanade Waterfront Theatre, Expand Construction brings significant experience to the redevelopment.
