Singaporean Man Sentenced to Seven Years for Fatal Stabbing of Pregnant Wife

A Singaporean man, driven by stress and misguided fears of his business collapsing, fatally stabbed his pregnant wife while she slept in their Ang Mo Kio home. David Brian Chow Kwok-Hun, 35, was sentenced to seven years in prison after he admitted to killing his 30-year-old wife, Isabel Elizabeth Francis, while in a state of severe emotional distress. Chow, who was convinced his security training company was doomed despite its strong financial standing, had reportedly endured a month of insomnia before the incident.

The tragic event was fueled by an accounting error that led Chow to believe his business was failing, though it had actually posted a S$1 million profit in the past financial year. Even with reassurances from his family and colleagues, Chow’s mental state deteriorated, eventually leading him to believe his family would suffer if his business collapsed.

After attacking his wife, Chow attempted suicide multiple times but eventually called the police to turn himself in. A psychological evaluation determined he was suffering from adjustment disorder with anxiety and depression. Chow’s family and friends, as well as his wife’s family, were present in court, with both sides showing emotional support throughout the sentencing.
