Malaysians could soon benefit from a reduced one-way fare of RM5 (about S$1.43) on the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) Shuttle Tebrau train between Woodlands, Singapore, and Johor Bahru starting in 2024. This proposed adjustment would lower the fare exclusively for Malaysian citizens, according to Malaysia’s Transport Minister, Anthony Loke.

Currently, all passengers pay S$5 for a one-way ticket from Woodlands to Johor Bahru, while the Johor to Woodlands leg costs RM5 for everyone. If implemented, the change would make the service more affordable for Malaysian citizens using this cross-border train route.

Loke explained that KTMB does not need Singapore’s agreement to implement this fare adjustment, as the company operates under Malaysian jurisdiction. However, discussions with Singapore on the future of Shuttle Tebrau services are planned as part of the transition to the upcoming Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, set to open within the next three years.
