Taylor Swift’s upcoming Eras Tour in Singapore has been one of the most highly anticipated events for 2024. With six shows scheduled from Mar. 2 to Mar. 9, Singapore is her only stop in Southeast Asia. In response to inquiries, the Ministry of Culture, Community & Youth (MCCY) and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) addressed their roles in bringing Swift’s performances to the country, clarifying in a joint statement on Feb. 20 that government involvement aimed to accommodate substantial demand from both local and regional fans.

According to the statement, the Singapore government, through Kallang Alive Sport Management (KASM) and MCCY, partnered with concert promoter AEG Presents. STB offered additional support via a grant, citing benefits for the local economy in terms of increased tourism, with particular impact on the hospitality, retail, and dining sectors. “Singapore’s quality infrastructure and vibrant cultural landscape make it an ideal destination for high-profile international events,” the statement noted, adding that over 300,000 tickets were sold, with numerous fans expected to travel to Singapore for the shows.

The government’s clarification comes following comments from Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, who alleged that Singapore had financially backed Swift’s concert to secure exclusive performances in Southeast Asia. Srettha remarked that Thailand would have been a cost-effective option but acknowledged the benefits such events bring to host nations.

Taylor Swift’s previous 2014 concert in Thailand was canceled due to a military coup, making her Eras Tour stop in Singapore the closest chance for fans across Southeast Asia to attend.
