All Secondary 3 students in Singapore from both the 2024 and 2025 cohorts will have the chance to attend the National Day Parade (NDP) National Education (NE) Shows, announced the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) in a statement on March 18. This special arrangement aims to give these students, who missed out on the NE shows during their Primary 5 years due to Covid-19 restrictions, the chance to experience this key educational event.

Typically, NE Shows are a highlight for Primary 5 students, but due to pandemic constraints, the 2020 and 2021 cohorts missed out. Parents of current Secondary 3 students will receive invitations via the Ministry of Education’s Parents Gateway (PG) Portal on March 20 and 21, enabling their children to attend one of the upcoming shows scheduled for July 6, 13, or 20. Parents of those who will be in Secondary 3 in 2025 will receive their invitations next year.

The Covid-19 pandemic significantly impacted NDP events, with 2020’s celebration split between two venues—the Padang and Star Vista—with a pared-down format and limited audience. NDP 2021 saw similar limitations, requiring all attendees to be vaccinated and undergo Covid-19 testing.

According to MINDEF, the NE Shows, a fixture since 1997, are an essential part of the collective National Education experience for students, helping them gain a deeper appreciation for Singapore’s history and values.
