The People’s Action Party (PAP) announced that it will not seek the suspension of Workers’ Party (WP) leader Pritam Singh from his role as Member of Parliament (MP) while legal proceedings are underway. This decision follows Singh’s court appearance on Tuesday (March 19), where he pleaded not guilty to two charges of allegedly making false statements before a parliamentary committee investigating former WP MP Raeesah Khan’s 2021 misconduct in Parliament.

PAP Organising Secretary Grace Fu addressed media inquiries on whether PAP MPs would push for Singh’s suspension, clarifying that the party would not take such action while the legal process is ongoing. She explained that this stance aligns with Parliament’s resolution to postpone any disciplinary measures until investigations and any resulting criminal proceedings against Singh conclude.

Fu also noted that this approach is consistent with PAP’s response to a motion filed by Non-Constituency MP Hazel Poa of the Progress Singapore Party last September, which similarly advocated for procedural fairness. “Parliament must address any MP’s wrongdoing rigorously, but suspending an MP is a serious matter that requires due legal process and natural justice,” she emphasized. “It would be inappropriate for Parliament to prejudge the outcome.”

Singh’s case is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on April 17 at 9 am.
