For the second consecutive year, Singapore has secured the top spot in the Chandler Good Government Index, a global ranking assessing the effectiveness of more than 100 governments. Released on May 15, this year’s report placed Singapore ahead of Denmark, Finland, Switzerland, and Norway. South Korea was the only other Asian nation in the top 20, ranking 20th.

Singapore excelled in three of the index’s seven evaluation pillars: Leadership and Foresight, showcasing visionary and ethical leadership; Strong Institutions, highlighting well-functioning government bodies; and Attractive Marketplace, focusing on job creation, innovation, and economic opportunities. Singapore placed second in Financial Stewardship and showed improvements across several pillars, including a fourth-place finish in Helping People Rise and a notable 26th in Global Influence and Reputation.

The Chandler Good Government Index, compiled by the Singapore-based Chandler Institute of Governance, draws on data from over 50 global sources, including the United Nations and World Trade Organization, evaluating indicators such as socio-economic development, geopolitical stability, and technological advancement. The report acknowledged Singapore’s proactive approach to AI, praising its comprehensive strategy for balancing technical infrastructure with innovation safeguards.
