A 44-year-old man who died in a fire outside a Potong Pasir flat on the morning of Aug. 28 was reportedly intoxicated and left outside his home by a friend shortly before the tragic incident, according to his older brother, known only as Lim.
The man, identified as Lim Min Lee, was brought back to his unit by a friend at around 6 a.m., where he resided with a cousin. The friend knocked on the door and called out multiple times before leaving him outside the flat, Lim told The Straits Times.
Shortly afterward, a neighbor reportedly heard noise and found Lim Min Lee on fire. At approximately 9 a.m., Lim received a call from his cousin informing him of his brother’s death. “We don’t know how he got burnt,” Lim shared with CNA. “We got no information.”
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) reported that they were alerted to the blaze at Block 107 Potong Pasir Ave 1 around 6:45 a.m. Members of the public had already extinguished the fire by the time they arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The SCDF and police are currently investigating the cause of the fire, with preliminary findings indicating no suspicion of foul play.
