Singaporean Driver Jailed After Crashing into Military Camp While Intoxicated

A 38-year-old Singaporean man, Muhammad Sathiq Mohamed Sadakatulla, has been sentenced to 20 weeks in jail after driving into Bedok Camp while drunk and later assaulting police officers. The incident occurred in the early hours of December 20, 2023, after Sathiq had consumed 10 cans of beer.

Sathiq arrived at the military camp around 6am, where he attempted to pass through the entry barrier. When security did not raise the barrier for him, he deliberately drove through it, entering the restricted area. He then made a U-turn and crashed through the exit barrier, leaving the camp at high speed. His blood alcohol level was found to be slightly above the legal limit at 36 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath.

Earlier, in an unrelated incident in September 2024, Sathiq assaulted two police officers while under the influence of alcohol. After drinking multiple cans of beer with a friend, Sathiq, in a drunken state, sought to provoke police by calling them to a location near Hotel 81 in Geylang. When officers arrived, he headbutted one and punched the other, causing both officers to require medical leave.

Sathiq pleaded guilty to entering a protected site without permission and assaulting two officers. The court was informed that he had been struggling with personal issues, including a strained relationship with his family and a recent divorce, which had led him to cope by drinking heavily. His defence lawyers expressed remorse on his behalf and noted that he had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.
