To mark International Women’s Day on March 8, AsiaOne spotlights inspiring women from all walks of life.
At just 23 years old, Jamie Ng discovered a lump in her breast that would lead to a life-altering diagnosis — Stage 2 breast cancer. In February 2022, after feeling an unusual pain, Jamie listened to her instincts and sought medical advice. Despite her young age, the news was shocking: she had cancer.
The diagnosis propelled Jamie into a whirlwind of medical procedures, including chemotherapy, egg-freezing, and a double mastectomy due to a hereditary gene that increased her risk of cancer recurrence. Through it all, Jamie showed incredible resilience, even filming her friends’ reactions as she broke the news and sharing her journey on social media to raise awareness about early detection.
Despite the emotional and physical toll, Jamie’s positivity shone through. She reflected on how her experience reshaped her outlook on life, learning to focus on what truly matters and no longer sweating the small stuff. Her fight isn’t over, as she continues immunotherapy, but her spirit remains unbroken.
Now cancer-free, Jamie is determined to pursue her dreams, starting with a month-long trip to Europe. Her story is a reminder that strength and courage come from within, and even in the face of adversity, there is always hope for a brighter tomorrow.
