“A staff member at a capsule hotel in Bugis appeared in court on Monday (March 24) following allegations that he molested a female tourist.

The 41-year-old Bangladeshi national is accused of forcibly restraining and assaulting a 45-year-old woman at The Room @ Bugis on the afternoon of March 22. Court documents indicate that he allegedly held the victim tightly to prevent her from leaving while committing the offence.

To protect the victim’s identity, a gag order has been issued. However, before the post was removed, the woman had shared details of the incident on the social media platform Threads. According to Lianhe Zaobao, she claimed the employee pushed her onto a bed and attempted to assault her.

Travelling alone in Singapore from March 16 to 25, the tourist recounted that The Room @ Bugis primarily accommodates backpackers, with a single staff member on duty. She described the capsule beds as having only translucent curtains. Overcome with fear following the incident, she immediately relocated to another hotel after filing a police report.

The hotel’s management has since responded, with manager Lin confirming that the employee’s contract was terminated after the charge was filed. He added that they are reaching out to the victim to offer support.

Lin stated that the accused, a married man with children, had prior experience in the hospitality industry. Background checks are conducted during hiring, but after this case, the hotel plans to enhance its screening process. Additional safety measures, such as increased patrols and requiring male employees to wear body cameras when entering female dormitories, are also under consideration.”
