SINGAPORE – After 17 years of screening movies for residents and visitors, Cathay Cineplexes at AMK Hub will close its doors on June 30, as announced in a recent Facebook post by the cinema operator. This marks the fourth Cathay location to shut down in the past two years, following closures at The Cathay building in Dhoby Ghaut, Cineleisure Orchard, and Parkway Parade.
While no specific reasons were given for the closure, moviegoers can enjoy screenings until the final session on June 30, with standard tickets offered at a discounted rate of S$10 until the last day. Cathay Cineplexes at AMK Hub, which opened in 2006, features eight halls with a seating capacity for 1,800 patrons.
After this closure, Cathay Cineplexes will continue to operate at five remaining locations in Singapore, including Causeway Point, Century Square, Downtown East, JEM, and West Mall. Owned by mm2 Asia, the brand is adapting its presence amid changing trends in the cinema industry.
