SINGAPORE — A video showing a resident sweeping trash into a neighbour’s home on the first day of Chinese New Year has gone viral, prompting strong reactions from netizens. The footage, shared on Monday (Jan 23), captures the resident using his foot to sweep rubbish toward his next-door neighbour’s property.
The caption accompanying the post read, “What a neighbour. First day of Chinese New Year, (and you) do something like this,” while the video itself was captioned, “Seriously, (on) Chinese New Year you need to do (something like this)? Sweep the trash to your neighbour’s house? Tells how much (of a) person you are sia.”
In the ten-second clip, the man is seen walking through a hallway, pausing by a door, and sweeping something toward his neighbour’s area.
On social media, commenters voiced their disapproval. “Nowadays, people (have) got an education but no morals,” said one. Another wrote, “If he sweeps the trash to your house, you just sweep it back. It means all his money will go to you instead of him.”
A few netizens shared similar experiences. One wrote, “My next-door neighbour would either step on our visitors’ shoes or wipe their shoes on our door mat. We think they are jealous of us as that old woman (doesn’t) seem to be able to marry off her daughter in her 60s.”
