“A major traffic jam unfolded along Balestier Road on Friday (March 21) after a cement silo detached from a trailer, blocking two lanes and restricting movement for over two hours.

According to police reports, the accident occurred around 9am at the junction of Balestier Road and Kim Keat Road. The trailer, believed to have skidded on its own, lost control, causing the massive cylindrical storage container to fall off. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Images circulating online show the cement silo lying perpendicular to the trailer, having also struck a traffic light during the incident. As a result, only the right-most lane remained open, leading to severe congestion stretching back to Moulmein Road.

Authorities, including traffic marshals, were deployed to manage vehicle flow. A mobile crane arrived just after midday, and by 1pm, the silo had been lifted back onto the trailer and secured.

Another Incident in Tuas
In a separate case on March 19, a concrete block with window grilles toppled along Tuas South Avenue 9. Photos of the incident, shared on social media, quickly gained traction, with many netizens making light-hearted comments about the scene.

Despite the disruptions, police confirmed that no injuries were recorded. The 31-year-old trailer driver involved in the Balestier Road incident is assisting with investigations.”
