A 48-year-old Chinese national, surnamed Wang, who suffered a stroke while working in Singapore, passed away from pneumonia on March 22, just weeks before his planned return to China.

Wang, who arrived in Singapore in January 2022, worked as an assistant chef and later as a dishwasher. In April, he suffered a stroke at his dormitory and underwent brain surgery at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where doctors removed part of his skull to save his life. Unfortunately, the surgery left him bedridden and unable to speak.

Wang had expressed a strong desire to return to his hometown in Jilin province, China, and his agent, Lennon Peh, started a fundraising campaign to help with the costs. The campaign raised $70,000 in just 22 days, surpassing the estimated $60,000 needed for his journey back home. However, before he could board the flight scheduled for mid-April, Wang passed away in the hospital.

Tragically, Wang’s mother also suffered a stroke upon hearing the news of her son’s death.

Wang’s funeral was organized by Peh and supported by his former employer, who also covered the expenses. The donations collected for Wang will now be redirected to other similar causes, as per Give.Asia, with refunds available upon request.
