On March 7, a package containing corrosive substances was found at Singapore Post’s eCommerce Logistics Hub in Tampines around 4pm, as reported by Lianhe Zaobao. The discovery led to the cordoning off of the facility for over three hours, and nearly 100 people were evacuated from the premises.
In response to inquiries, the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) confirmed that four workers who had handled the package experienced irritation on their hands and sought treatment at a nearby polyclinic before SCDF’s arrival. The package was found leaking an unidentified liquid, which was later identified as a corrosive substance by SCDF’s Hazmat specialists.
The package was safely contained and handed over to the police for further investigation. The Singapore Police Force (SPF) stated that a 43-year-old man is assisting with investigations. Four men, aged 17 to 27, sustained minor injuries but refused to be conveyed to the hospital, while a 40-year-old man was taken to the hospital conscious.
SingPost confirmed that normal operations at the hub resumed promptly after the incident, though further details remain under investigation by the police.
