Six new stations on the Cross Island Line are set to open by 2032, with construction beginning in 2023, according to the Land Transport Authority (LTA). Spanning 15km, these new stations—Turf City (CR14), King Albert Park (CR15), Maju (CR16), Clementi (CR17), West Coast (CR18), and Jurong Lake District (CR19)—will form Phase 2 of the Cross Island Line and shorten travel times for residents in the western regions of Singapore, including Sunset Way and West Coast. This development is expected to benefit 40,000 households living in those areas.

Key Interchanges: King Albert Park and Clementi
King Albert Park and Clementi stations will serve as interchanges, linking the Cross Island Line to the Downtown Line and East-West Line, respectively. The Cross Island Line, which is Singapore’s longest fully underground MRT line at more than 50km, will be constructed in three phases.

Examples of Reduced Travel Times
With the completion of Phase 2, travel times across Singapore will be significantly reduced. For instance, a trip on the Cross Island Line from Hougang (CR8) to Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Maju station (CR16) will take just 35 minutes, compared to the current 65 minutes. Additionally, a journey from West Coast (CR18) to Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park (CR10) will take only 30 minutes, down from 70 minutes today.

Closer Access for More Households
The new stations will bring Singapore closer to its goal of having eight in 10 homes within a 10-minute walk to an MRT station. The expansion of the MRT network, which will grow from 245km to 360km by the early 2030s, is expected to further enhance connectivity across the island, according to reports from CNA.

Supporting Economic Hubs
The Cross Island Line will also support key economic hubs outside of Singapore’s central business district, including the Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District, and the Changi region. These areas are expected to become centers of economic activity in the coming years.

All civil contracts for Phase 1 of the Cross Island Line have been awarded, with construction already underway. Phase 1 is expected to be completed by 2030. Additionally, an extension connecting Pasir Ris to Punggol, announced in 2020, is also slated to be operational by 2032.
