A person was pronounced dead at the scene after their body was recovered from the Singapore River near Clarke Quay on the night of June 30. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) reported receiving a call for water rescue assistance at approximately 10:15 p.m.
Upon arrival, the SCDF found no immediate sign of the individual. Divers from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) were deployed to conduct an underwater search, eventually locating the body three meters from the shore at a depth of around three meters.
Photos of the rescue scene were shared on social media by a passerby, showing the area along the river cordoned off by police, with several SCDF and police officers on site. Speculation on how the person ended up in the water circulated online, although the original post was removed by July 1.
