Planning a trip to Malaysia soon? Be prepared for significant delays on the way back. Motorists have experienced long wait times at customs as people travel for the Qing Ming festival, which falls on Wednesday, April 5.
Social media is filled with footage showing heavy traffic on Malaysian roads leading to the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints. One Facebook user reported being stuck in traffic for seven hours, commenting, “When you see people standing outside their cars, it shows that the queue didn’t move at all for a long time.”
A TikTok video also showed a long line of vehicles on the Causeway early Monday morning as drivers returned to Singapore. According to Shin Min Daily News, the heaviest delays occurred at Johor Bahru customs over the weekend. A 56-year-old woman shared that her family, returning from a Qing Ming visit, was stuck in traffic for nearly five hours on Sunday afternoon despite leaving earlier to avoid the jam.
Another traveller described being caught in a three-hour jam on the Second Link, while her relative endured a seven-hour wait at the Causeway.
Heavy Traffic Expected Until April 11:
This week also includes the Good Friday holiday on April 7, adding to the congestion. The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has warned travellers to expect heavy traffic at the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints until April 11.
Travellers are advised to factor in extra time for immigration clearance and consider postponing non-essential trips to avoid congestion. For updates on traffic conditions, motorists can check the Land Transport Authority’s One Motoring website, the Expressway Monitoring & Advisory System, ICA’s social media pages, or tune in to local radio stations.
