EBRC Yet to Convene, but Singaporeans Speculate on Potentially Contested Seats in Upcoming Election

SINGAPORE: Education Minister Chan Chun Sing recently informed Parliament that the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee (EBRC) has yet to be convened. Responding to Workers’ Party MP Louis Chua, Mr. Chan explained that the Prime Minister will outline the terms of reference when the EBRC is activated. The EBRC reviews population shifts and housing developments that could impact the electoral map before each general election.

In the meantime, Singaporeans are already discussing which parliamentary seats might shift in the next election. On social media, some have highlighted Jalan Besar GRC, suggesting it could be a competitive ward due to current sentiments. Other areas noted include Marine Parade, where the PAP’s loss of former House Speaker Tan Chuan-Jin may impact outcomes, and East Coast GRC, where the WP almost succeeded in 2020.

Speculation also surrounds Sengkang GRC after former MP Raeesah Khan’s departure and the closely contested West Coast GRC, which the Progress Singapore Party nearly won in the last election. Some have even proposed a return of former WP chief Low Thia Khiang as a potential shakeup.

These discussions highlight Singaporeans’ keen interest in party strategies and leadership shifts as they await EBRC’s review ahead of the impending general election.
