“While travelling along the Pan Island Expressway (PIE), Jason Wong was shocked to find an elderly man lying on the road shoulder near Toa Payoh on the afternoon of 4 March. Despite being pressed for time, Wong immediately turned on his hazard lights and pulled over to help.

Another driver also stopped to assist, and together they helped the elderly man to his feet and into Wong’s car to ensure his safety. The man, dressed in a white shirt and dark trousers, was unable to explain how he ended up on the expressway. He only mentioned his intention to reach Bukit Batok Street 11 to “”collect his taxi.”” Wong also observed that the man appeared confused and had visible injuries on his fingers, ears, and side.

As Wong drove, he spotted a police vehicle and flagged it down. He informed the elderly man in Mandarin that the police would provide further assistance. Officers at the scene took charge, assuring the man they would take him to his destination. Wong provided his contact details before departing.

This was not the first time Wong had encountered such a situation. In September 2023, he found another elderly man walking on the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) under the scorching sun. That man claimed his neighbour had abandoned him there, leaving him to find his way to a supermarket. Wong assisted him, ensuring he was safe before contacting his wife.

These incidents highlight the importance of vigilance and compassion on the road, with everyday citizens stepping up to protect those in vulnerable situations.”
