A 71-year-old woman, born in Singapore but raised in China for most of her life, is now searching for her biological family. Kang Yu’e was adopted at the age of one by the sworn brother of her biological father and moved to Fujian, China. Her story has come to light through a recent report by Shin Min Daily News, where her grandson shared her desire to reunite with her siblings in Singapore.
Kang Yu’e, who was born in 1953, was unaware of her adoption until she married. This revelation led to a long period of tension with her adoptive father, Zheng Shui Gen. Her grandson explained that she felt betrayed by her father’s secrecy, leading to a breakdown in their relationship. Over time, Kang Yu’e began using the name given to her by her birth family.
Before severing ties with her adoptive father, Kang Yu’e was given an address for her family in Singapore, which allowed her to reach out. Despite never meeting in person, she and her siblings exchanged letters and photos until 1985. Tragically, during a move, she lost her family portraits, and the contact ceased.
Her biological family sent financial support, a gesture that her grandson views as proof of their care despite the distance. However, after 1985, they lost all communication.
The last known address of her family in Singapore was Blk 32 Jalan Rumah Tinggi, Bukit Merah. Kang Yu’e’s biological parents were Jen Yea Len and Kang Sheng. Her siblings included two brothers, Kang Tianping and Kang Tianjin, and three sisters, Kang Yulan, Kang Yuyan, and another younger sister.
Now, as she enters her senior years, Kang Yu’e is determined to find her family once again, hoping for a reunion that will bring closure to her long search. Her grandson remains hopeful that this can finally be achieved.
