Ella Chen recently returned to Malaysia to celebrate Chinese New Year with her husband’s family, and for the Taiwanese singer, indulging in the country’s culinary delights was at the top of her list.
Sharing her excitement on Instagram, the 43-year-old revealed that her first stop was a plate of prawn noodles, a dish she eagerly devours whenever she visits. “The first thing I do when I return to Malaysia for Chinese New Year is to eat prawn noodles,” Ella posted on her Instagram Story on January 25, showing herself enjoying the dish.
This time, Ella tried prawn noodles with pork ribs for the first time, alongside a curry laksa with roasted pork, both of which she described as “super delicious.” She also treated herself to chendol, a dessert with a name that sounds like “abundance of wealth,” and explained, “During the new year, you must eat chendol because it will bring you ‘more money.'”
The singer, best known as a member of the girl group S.H.E., also shared her festive celebrations with followers, posting videos of her family partaking in traditional Chinese New Year customs, such as tossing lo hei. Her son, Daniel, could be seen enjoying firecrackers, adding to the lively atmosphere.
Ella has since returned to Taiwan, but her love for the food remains evident as she continues to repost fans’ photos of themselves eating chendol and kaya toast. On January 28, she also posted a family photo, showing herself, her husband Alvin Lai, and their son Daniel dressed in festive red for the occasion. Even their dog was dressed in a red outfit to join in the celebrations.
In a playful reference to the Year of the Snake, Ella captioned the photo: “Wishing you all, accept everything, be grateful for everything, everything is the best.”
