SINGAPORE: A man who has been with the same company for over five years reported that he has not received a single promotion during his tenure. He shared his experience on the popular confessions page SGWhispers, stating, “This company is known for its extremely slow progression, so I had not been promoted even once. However, I stayed because my colleagues are generally nice, and there is no overtime pay for staying back late.”

The employee noted that poor management has resulted in a high turnover rate, with around six staff members resigning each year. This situation has significantly increased his workload compared to when he first joined, in addition to taking on side projects. “I’m thinking of requesting a promotion,” he mentioned.

However, he expressed concern about competing with a few dedicated colleagues who not only handle a heavier workload but also consistently take on additional side projects by working late without any extra pay or bringing work home. “I only stay back late occasionally for urgent matters because I believe in maintaining a work-life balance,” he explained. He questioned whether promotions are based solely on individual contributions or if they are assessed against colleagues’ performance as well.
