Who can forget the glitz and glamour of Crazy Rich Asians? While the plot captivated audiences, it was Singapore’s stunning scenery and delicious cuisine that truly stole the spotlight. One Filipino couple decided to channel that opulence for their wedding, drawing inspiration from the extravagant reception scene set in Gardens by the Bay.
On June 20, the bride’s sister, Mary, shared snippets of the grand affair on TikTok, showcasing what can only be described as a Crazy Rich Asians-style wedding. JM Tiongco, 26, and Abbie Caram, 31, both real estate professionals, tied the knot on June 18.
“Kevin Kwan’s Crazy Rich Asians is our family’s comfort movie,” Mary revealed to AsiaOne. She explained that the colorful palette and floral designs from the film were instrumental in helping the bride realize her dream wedding in Singapore’s iconic venue.
The 21-second TikTok clip features a beautifully manicured floral arch and elaborate arrangements lining the aisle, along with a red carpet backdrop inspired by the movie poster, perfect for capturing stylish photos.
As night fell, the venue transformed into a glowing spectacle, complete with candlelit tables and iridescent lights from the nearby Supertrees, with the majestic Marina Bay Sands adding an elegant touch. The wedding festivities included a lively lion dance and a vibrant Chinese dance performance.
The couple truly shone, with the bride in a stunning Vera Wang gown and the groom in a custom-dyed pina barong suit by Filipino designer AJ Javier. Mary also mentioned a jazz singer and a live painter added to the celebration’s charm.
Netizens’ Reactions:
The comments on the TikTok post overflowed with admiration for the extravagant theme, with many expressing envy and calling it their dream wedding. One user humorously noted the potential discomfort of an outdoor venue without air conditioning, to which Mary replied that coolers were provided.
Pulling Out All the Stops:
“Every detail was planned through Zoom with the help of planner Rosette Designs,” Mary shared. The couple faced challenges due to the unpredictable weather of Singapore, particularly for an outdoor wedding.
Mary noted that their guest list included attendees from America, Australia, and the Philippines, all of whom flew in for the occasion. “One guest even declared it the wedding of the century, and it’s the talk of the town in the Philippines,” she added.
The final tally for this lavish celebration? The total cost was in the eight-figure range in Philippine pesos, amounting to at least $250,000.
