A fire erupted early on Monday morning (Feb 3) at a shophouse located on Norris Road in Little India, causing substantial damage to a car parked nearby and impacting neighbouring businesses.

The fire affected several shophouses in the area, including a spa and a clinic, as reported by local resident Rafiqul Islam Mamun, who shared a video of the incident in the Facebook group Complaint Singapore. Thick smoke engulfed the building at 31 Norris Road, with two adjacent units also being covered by the smoke.

As the fire intensified, loud cracking sounds were heard as windows of the affected shophouse shattered, sending glass fragments flying across the street. Police officers were observed trying to contain the fire using fire extinguishers, while multiple vehicles parked in front of the building appeared to have sustained damage.

By around 11.30am, Rafiqul updated the public, noting that Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) firefighters were using a hose to bring the blaze under control. Police had cordoned off the area, evacuating nearby residents and onlookers, who watched the firefighting efforts from a safe distance.

SCDF confirmed they received the alert at approximately 11.15am and responded swiftly. Two water jets were deployed to prevent the fire from spreading, while another jet was used to tackle the flames inside the shophouse. Within an hour, the fire was successfully extinguished.

The SCDF further stated that the fire caused heat and smoke damage to the adjacent businesses. A car parked outside the affected building also suffered damage from the flames. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
