At the site of the recent tragic accident in Tampines, where two lives were lost on April 22, a touching memorial of flowers and handwritten notes has grown over the past few days. The accident, which occurred at the junction of Tampines Avenue 1 and 4, claimed the lives of a 17-year-old junior college student and a 57-year-old van passenger, drawing tributes from friends, family, and the public.
On April 25, nearly two dozen bouquets adorned the pedestrian crossing area, doubling in number since the first day after the accident. Messages from those who knew the victims, as well as strangers moved by the tragedy, were left with the flowers. One friend wrote, “You were a great person and friend. Fly high now.” Another note read, “To those who passed on, you’ve left beautiful memories behind. May all who are grieving find peace.”
In a gesture of compassion, Venerable Shi Fa Rong also left a message for the victims and injured, praying for peace and healing. The growing display of flowers, notes, and even hand-drawn doodles reflects the collective grief and hopes for safer roads.
