SINGAPORE: Connie Tan, founder of The Live Turtle and Tortoise Museum in Yishun, is reaching out to the public to help keep her unique museum open as visitor numbers have sharply declined. The museum, which she founded as a community project with her father, now faces financial difficulties that have depleted her family’s savings.
Ms. Tan’s heartfelt appeal on social media, posted last Saturday (April 20), has struck a chord, garnering over half a million views on TikTok. She shared the challenges they’re facing, particularly since construction in the nearby Lor Chencharu area began last year, leading many to mistakenly believe the museum had closed.
“With rising costs, ongoing construction, and fewer visitors, we’re struggling. We hope you’ll share our story and visit us,” said Ms. Tan in the video, adding that they are still short on funds for the museum’s upcoming relocation. The costs have forced her to dip into her retirement savings, further straining her finances.
Despite these hurdles, the museum remains open, offering a family-friendly experience where visitors can pet and feed turtles and tortoises. Ms. Tan hopes that her message will inspire both locals and tourists to help keep the museum alive and support its mission of spreading love for these gentle animals.
The museum continues to receive positive reviews, with families and children enjoying the chance to interact with the turtles. A recent visitor shared, “My 10-year-old daughter, who loves turtles, had a great time feeding and petting them. It’s well worth the visit.”
