The Pasir Ris slashing incident on Dec. 20 is believed to stem from a business rivalry between neighboring shop owners. A video shared on Facebook by Patrick Tan shows the aftermath at Pasir Ris West Plaza, where bloodstains mark the ground outside a provision shop. Onlookers gathered as police approached a mobile phone store to speak with the victims.
In the video, a woman in a white T-shirt is seen supporting her sister, who presses a towel to a severe facial injury. Both women are visibly bloodied. The sister in white reportedly told passersby, “Her eye was almost gone,” referring to the extent of the facial injury. According to witnesses, one of the sisters, aged 53 and 55, was slashed in the face and bleeding heavily. A nearby coffee shop employee confirmed the severity of her injuries to 8world.
The suspect, a 61-year-old man who allegedly attacked out of resentment toward a competitor’s success, was also injured in the incident and later arrested on charges of voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon.
Senior Minister and MP for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC Teo Chee Hean addressed the incident on Facebook, emphasizing that it was not a random attack but likely tied to a prolonged dispute among the involved parties. He confirmed that all four — the three victims and the suspect — were hospitalized in stable condition.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force received a call for assistance at about 4:55 pm, and all injured individuals were taken to Sengkang General Hospital.
