Starting October 1, 2024, foreign-registered vehicles entering Johor from Singapore will need a Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) along with a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag. Announced by Malaysia’s Transport Ministry, this requirement aims to streamline vehicle identification, prevent theft, and facilitate toll payments.
The RFID tag enables payments for the RM20 ($5.75) toll at the Johor checkpoints and on Malaysian expressways with RFID lanes.
How to Apply and Install Your VEP-RFID Tag
Step 1: Prepare Information
Before registering, gather your documents:
NRIC and passport details
Road tax and vehicle specifics, including COE and chassis number
Certificate of Entitlement (COE)
Insurance details
Step 2: Download the Touch N’ Go App
The Touch N’ Go app is required for VEP payment and linking your RFID tag.
Step 3: Register on Malaysia’s VEP Website
Create an account at vep.jpj.gov.my, verify your account by email, and upload your vehicle log card or input details manually. Approval confirmation may take a few days or weeks.
Step 4: Collect Your RFID Tag
After approval, collect your RFID tag in Johor for RM10 ($2.87) or opt for home delivery at a higher cost.
Step 5: Install the RFID Tag
Place the RFID tag on a flat, non-metal area like the left headlamp or windscreen. Assistance is available in Johor if needed. Once installed, take a photo of the tag with your licence plate and upload it to vepams.jpj.gov.my.
Important Notes:
The RFID tag lasts for five years.
If you sell your vehicle, deregister the RFID tag on the JPJ website.

Following these steps ensures smooth entry and compliance for your vehicle in Malaysia.
