A netizen expressed frustration after having to wait behind a wheelchair on a travelator at Serangoon MRT, but instead of sympathy, his post on social media led to commenters teaching him about patience and compassion.

Jackie Nguyen took to the Complaint Singapore Facebook page on Tuesday (Oct 25), sharing two photos of the woman pushing the wheelchair and describing the incident, which occurred around 4:40 pm at Serangoon MRT, between the purple and yellow lines.

Nguyen wrote: “A wheelchair was using the track and blocked all the people behind. Thinking just say ‘excuse me’ so they will give way to go through? Think again, there is no room for it.” He questioned whether wheelchairs should be allowed on travelators, asking for signage or fines if they’re not permitted.

Nguyen also added concerns about the time lost due to the situation, calculating the impact for others waiting behind the wheelchair.

The post garnered nearly 250 comments, most of which schooled Nguyen on being more understanding.

“Wheelchairs are allowed, bro. Be gracious,” one commenter said.

Another added, “Seeing how thin the lady is, maybe you should put down your phone and help her push the wheelchair instead of complaining.”

“If you’re in such a rush, just walk,” others suggested.

Netizens largely agreed that showing patience and kindness in such situations is the best approach.
