Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, believes the country has the potential to host exclusive, large-scale concerts that could rival Singapore’s, according to Tempo. Luhut referenced Singapore’s exclusive arrangement with Taylor Swift’s team, which secured her as the only Southeast Asian stop for her “The Eras Tour.”

“What Singapore is offering, we’ll do the same for other artists,” Luhut said, noting the economic benefits Singapore gained, including a boost in tourism and fully booked hotels. “If Singapore can profit, why can’t we?” he added.

Luhut shared that discussions are already in progress, with plans to involve entertainment companies to secure exclusive deals with international artists. He highlighted the revenue potential from such arrangements, noting that Singapore saw significant income from foreign exchange and tourism during Swift’s shows.

Indonesia’s government has been working on refining its concert licensing process to attract more international performances. Last year, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said enhancing this system could help Indonesia compete for more concert dates, a response to Coldplay’s multiple dates in Singapore compared to just one in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong defended the Swift exclusivity deal, describing it as a “post-Covid” initiative to promote tourism. He noted that other ASEAN countries could have made similar arrangements if Singapore hadn’t acted first.
