SINGAPORE: A recent online post from a job applicant has sparked conversation about unprofessional interview experiences after they shared an incident where an interviewer dismissed their three-year degree, saying it “wasn’t worth it” since it was completed outside Singapore.
The applicant asked others about their worst or rudest interview experiences, prompting a flood of stories. “I was interviewed by the main boss at a small firm, and he told me my degree wasn’t worth it just because I didn’t study in Singapore,” they wrote.
Many people responded with similar experiences. One shared, “They asked me to come in on a Saturday morning, but when I arrived, the office was closed. They’d completely forgotten the interview.” Another commenter described an interview where the boss initially seemed friendly, but later belittled their degree and even made a personal remark about their father, causing the candidate to cry.
A third user recounted a disheartening experience at a maritime company. “In my second interview, the interviewer said, ‘You’re the same age as my son,’ then implied I couldn’t handle the job because his son is irresponsible. I really wanted that position, but in hindsight, I’m glad I avoided what was obviously a red flag.”
These stories highlight how an unprofessional interview experience can leave lasting impressions on job seekers.
