SINGAPORE: As living costs continue to rise, a recent Reddit post has sparked appreciation for Valu$, a chain of budget-friendly stores across Singapore. Reddit user u/Newez shared a photo of a Valu$ Shop, writing, “With all the inflation and current economy outlook, thankful for shops like this exist,” and fellow commenters quickly voiced agreement.

Valu$ stores offer a range of discounted products, both local and international, often at significantly reduced prices. The shops are known for their “FIRE SALE!” and “EVERYTHING MUST GO!” signs, which have become a familiar sight. Reddit users shared their love for the store’s affordability, with one calling Valu$ “one of the top 10 best things that have happened to Singapore in the past decade,” adding, “It’s like a window to Malaysia.”

In fact, some noted that certain items at Valu$ are even cheaper than in Malaysia. For example, German chocolate brand Ritter Sport, which costs S$2 at Valu$, sells for nearly double the price in Malaysia. “I always ask my family member who works in SG to grab those whenever they come back,” commented one user.

Valu$ also stocks global brands like Lay’s, Snickers, Milka, and Ritz at better prices than larger supermarkets. From inexpensive mee goreng to low-cost sunscreen, shoppers appreciate the savings. However, commenters advised checking expiration dates on food items, as some may be close to expiry.

Venus stores, another discount retailer, received similar praise. One user noted Venus’ sunscreen is S$15 cheaper than at other stores, and others highlighted Venus’ affordable daily necessities.

In an era of tight budgets, Valu$ and Venus stores are increasingly recognized as “a godsend” for Singaporeans seeking quality products without breaking the bank.
