“A significant fire broke out on 19 February at a recycling facility in Kranji, prompting a large-scale emergency response from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
Firefighting teams arrived at the scene around 10:30am, deploying six water jets and an unmanned firefighting machine to tackle the intense blaze. The affected facility, located at 11 Kranji Crescent, is operated by Wah & Hua, a recycling and waste management company.
By the time emergency crews reached the site, waste materials inside the warehouse were already engulfed in flames. The SCDF issued text alerts to mobile users on the M1, StarHub, and SingTel networks, as well as SGSecure app users, warning them to steer clear of the vicinity.
Authorities also reported worsening traffic congestion due to ongoing firefighting efforts, urging motorists to seek alternative routes to avoid delays.
One individual was taken to hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation and burn injuries, according to an SCDF update.
This is not the first fire incident at the site. Reports indicate that the location has experienced multiple fires since 2018. In March 2024, a blaze spread across a 400-square-metre processing area—roughly the size of a basketball court—resulting in the evacuation of 25 people.
Firefighters remain on high alert as efforts continue to contain the situation and prevent further escalation.”
