A man who experienced bullying during his National Service (NS) took to social media seeking advice on how to move past the ordeal.
In an anonymous post on the popular confessions page SGWhispers, the man asked, “How do I move on from bullying?” He explained that it had been about five years since his Operationally Ready Date (ORD) but described his NS experience as “horrible at best.”
He recounted being targeted due to his severe overbite, with people calling him names like “windcutter” and “windbreaker.” Despite not keeping in touch with most of his former NS mates, except for a few close friends after being posted to their respective units, he thought the worst was behind him—until one of the regulars who had participated in the bullying reached out to ask for a loan.
The man shared, “This regular was in charge of the training platoon and was supposed to stop the bullying, but instead, he joined in. Imagine my shock when he messaged me years later asking to borrow money for his flat.”
He expressed no guilt for ignoring the request and admitted he still harbored ill feelings towards those who tormented him during NS. However, the man ended his post by seeking advice from netizens on how to move on from the painful memories.
