Since Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, the platform has seen a whirlwind of changes. In a surprising move, Musk launched a poll asking users to decide if he should resign from his position as Twitter’s CEO. As of now, nearly 58% of respondents have voted “yes” in favor of Musk stepping down.

With 5.5 million votes already cast and half a day left for the poll to conclude, Musk has promised to honor the results, indicating that he will follow through if the majority votes for his resignation.

In the poll, Musk asked:
“Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll.”

While the majority leans toward Musk stepping down, he later tweeted, “No one wants the job who can actually keep Twitter alive. There is no successor,” suggesting he might remain at the helm despite the vote’s outcome.

This follows Twitter’s controversial announcement of a new rule banning users from sharing links to rival platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, and Donald Trump’s Truth Social.

Since Musk’s $44 billion purchase of Twitter on Oct. 27, the platform has faced a series of shakeups, including mass layoffs, suspensions of high-profile journalists, and the banning of accounts tracking private jets, including Musk’s own.

In a later tweet, Musk apologized for recent decisions, stating: “Going forward, there will be a vote for major policy changes. My apologies. Won’t happen again.”

The poll received mixed reactions, with some urging Musk to stay while others expressed relief at the possibility of him stepping down.
