Although this ‘Apple’ may not have grown in Singapore, it’s now officially part of the country.
In an Instagram post on Sunday (Dec 18), 44-year-old Malaysia-born actress Apple Hong shared photos and videos of her citizenship ceremony, marking the final step in her journey to becoming a Singaporean citizen.
“18th December 2022, a special day to remember and mark my new identity and life journey,” Apple wrote in her post.
The ceremony, organized by Tanjong Pagar GRC and Radin Mas SMC, was attended by Member of Parliament Joan Pereira, who presented Apple with her official citizenship certificate.
Apple also posted a short video showing the event, giving her followers a glimpse of her experience that day. The video featured a large buffet table with a statue of the iconic Merlion as part of the decoration, along with stalls serving local snacks such as putu mayam and muah chee.
Several local celebrities, including Zheng Geping, Lee Teng, and Cynthia Koh, commented on her post to congratulate her on this significant milestone. Michelle Chong also chimed in, saying, “My fellow Singaporean!”
Apple has been a well-known face in Singapore’s entertainment industry since the early 2000s, having appeared in popular shows like Portrait of Home and The Little Nyonya.
In July of this year, she shared on Instagram when she first received her pink identity card, reflecting on her journey. “It all began in 2000. With God’s intervention, I traveled from Malaysia to Singapore for work. I experienced and learned about life, made close friends, got married, and built a home,” she wrote. “I’ve experienced a lot and finally received my pink card in 2022, taking root on this little red dot.”
