SINGAPORE — A new study by global research firm Ipsos reveals that 29% of Singaporeans plan to leave their current jobs within the next two years, with salary and flexible work options emerging as top reasons. Among those intending to switch employers soon, 65% cited low compensation, while 40% emphasized the lack of flexible work arrangements.

For those aiming to exit within a year, a lack of career growth and feeling unappreciated were the main factors, especially for mid-level and senior managers. The study, conducted in December 2023 with a representative sample of 1,000 employees, also found that workplace culture has room for improvement. Although 68% of respondents reported positive experiences with open feedback and supportive behavior from managers, older workers showed significantly less pride in their workplace, with those aged 55–65 reporting nearly 20% lower satisfaction than younger colleagues.

Ipsos noted that while 65% of male participants feel proud of their workplace, only 59% of female respondents share the sentiment. Addressing attrition rates and enhancing workplace culture, Ipsos CEO Ghassan Karian emphasized, are essential for retaining talent.

The study highlights that Singaporean workers seeking better pay and workplace flexibility could drive significant changes in the job market as they pursue roles aligned with these priorities.
